Watch NYE Celebrations on ABC, CNN, FOX or NBC to see the ball drop, fireworks and live performances by some of the top artists in the country.

Times Square in New York City is definitely one of the most, if not, THE most iconic New Year's Eve celebrations in the world. But let's not forget that there are big NYE celebrations happening in major cities all around the world such as in Sydney, Rio De Janeiro, Paris, London, Berlin, Barcelona and Tokyo to name a few. Each city puts on its own unique firework display and "ball drop". Many cities have their own way to signify the end of the year. For example, London's Big Ben chimes at midnight.

No matter where you are, tuning into the ball drop in Times Square is simple. To begin with, the four major network programs (ABC, NBC, FOX, and CNN) begin their New Year's Eve coverage typically at 8:00 PM Eastern Time on December 31st, and the ball drop will start at 11:59 PM.

Not everyone lives in the Eastern time zone but you can catch ABC's coverage of the Times Square ball drop at:

  • 10:59 PM Central
  • 9:59 PM Mountain
  • 8:59 PM Pacific
  • 7:59 PM Alaskan
  • 6:59 PM Hawaiian

Also, each city may have their own unique NYE television coverage of their local celebration. For example, cities such as Dallas and New Orleans will show the NYC countdown, but typically segue over to their own countdown. Some local stations may tape delay the ball drop to correspond with the local time zone.

Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve

Probably the most iconic NYE TV broadcast of the ball drop is ABC's Dick Clark's Rockin New Year's Eve. Dick Clark began hosting the show in 1972. He hosted it for 48 episodes until his death in 2012. Ryan Seacrest began cohosting in 2006, and eventually took over being the main presenter. Many famous artists have performed on this show such as Taylor Swift, Blink 182, Lady Gaga, Tony Bennett, and Mariah Carey. The show also airs live or prerecorded performances and festivities in Hollywood and New Orleans. Even though you can catch this show for free on local TV, you can tune into their live stream using your cable TV credentials.
